Rotary Motion Feedthroughs
Rotary Motion Feedthrough Overview
Rotary motion feedthroughs allow the transfer of torque from outside the system to equipment within the system. This functionality is critical for applications requiring controlled motion for samples and targets within sealed environments such as experimental setups, semiconductor manufacturing, various deposition methods, beam steering for particle accelerators, and more.
Motion feedthroughs are available in two designs: elastomer sealed and ferro-sealed. These options allow you to select the combination of rotations per minute and torque capacity most suitable for your needs.
Elastomer-sealed feedthrough
The elastomer-sealed feedthrough utilizes a double O-ring seal and two ball bearings in its construction to provide smooth, friction-free operation. The double O-ring offers enhanced leak protection and extended seal life leading to a more reliable and efficient feedthrough. This sealing method is ideal for applications with abrasive or hazardous substances.
- Available in stainless steel or aluminum
- Tool-free servicing
Ferro-sealed Rotary Feedthrough
The ferro-sealed rotary feedthrough uses ferrofluid O-ring technology to provide a reliable vacuum seal, high RPM, and high torque capacity, all at a price unmatched for its features. The ferro-fluid seal is created by liquid O-rings being hermetically sealed against the feedthrough
shaft by high strength magnets within the feedthrough body. This allows there to be very low stray magnetic fields with magnetic influence controlled and outside of the vacuum environment.
Ferro-sealed rotary feedthroughs are available in multiple flange connection designs. These flange connections include ISO quick flange, baseplate, threaded nose, and ConFlat (CF) flanges for UHV applications.
- Up to 5,000 RPM
- Vacuum Rated for 1×10-8 Torr with UHV options rated up to 1×10-9 Torr
